Sunday's best to Monday's mess - Sat, 22 Nov 2008 21:53:07 PST
Podcast Audio Preview Podcast - Download

Here I was trying to get some of the high-energy, fat-beat feel i got from one of my Le Tigre / Dixie Chick mixes, but with the ccmixter style grooves. I was getting restless from the slow and steady beats from the other tunes I'm working on at the moment.

Apologies to Shannon for what I've done with some of her vocals, but it felt like the right thing to do at that point in the track :)

I've really liked Forensic's recent uploads and wanted to make a few different takes at them.

This track is really based on swapping loops in and out throughout the track - so no rhodes this time. :)

BOCrews recent departure into a new sound kick started a few ideas.

This is the first mix where musically i added nothing, except the vocals of course.

The pella is here if you feel inclined to mess with it.

The Oxidization of the C120 Tape - Sat, 22 Nov 2008 02:09:44 PST
Podcast Audio Preview Podcast - Download

I still keep my old cassette tapes despite their continual decline into total unplayability. I was warned not to buy C120 tapes as the tape itself was made so thin that its life span was far less than the other makes. Ever the thrifty one I ignored this advice and now have shoe boxes filling up with metal oxide powders.

The upside when listening to these tapes is that in some cases the music takes on a new life as words drop in and out and sometimes repeat themselves forming new versions of the recorded song!!

I have taken the liberty of emulating this effect somewhat on Anchors vocal.

Osculate Me (Very Wrong Town Mix) - Fri, 21 Nov 2008 13:52:00 PST
Podcast Audio Preview Podcast - Download

It's no secret that I am a pretty big fan of mixter Jaspertine, his mixes show up on my ipod a lot. I made a mix last year, almost to the day, using only his mixes and samples, and that is what this one is comprised of as well. I have taken one of his first mixes, two from in between, and his very latest to make it. Also, I limited myself to ‘O' words from the page in my dictionary that has the word oscillation on it; osculate was on this page. It means to kiss, and it has a mathematical definition regarding the touching of two surfaces at which they have a common tangent. Sounds a little like remixing, non?

Chords: A7/A7 over G/F#-/E7
This is in the key of E Major.
Lyric:
I cannot believe
I am here with you
holding this orchid in your room
the Montauk snow (should have been Moncton) outside is cold
and your silver eyes won't melt I'm told
I orbit around your lips instead
we talk about what it is like to be dead
I'm carbon neutral, organic & sweet
and I beg you darling, won't you please
Osculate Me
The tips of your fingers the edge of your toes
are tangent and cogent to all that I know
your skin is a perfect ossuary
and the bones inside, belong to me
The otters and ospreys play in the sea
gliding and flying and oscillating
the abalone's weakness is right under neath
if you tear it apart
it offers a treat

Pella here if you want it.

A quite composition to start, gently building through the track, based in the style of Tim Story and Craig Armstrong using conventional instruments : Piano, Pan-pipes and Strings ect,.played in via a midi keyboard.

Coming Down (Since 1983) - Thu, 20 Nov 2008 20:02:42 PST

A fine vocal from State Shirt.
I purposely picked on the pell alone, not listening to his completed song yet (hey I will though).
As soon has I heard the key I just had to give it the ‘80's rock ballad treatment.
Think of any "Supergroup" of the 1980's (particularly ones that called themselves after cities or countries) and you will get my drift.
Fun working out some chords and changes to suit the vox.
Any stuffups in timing I can blame on my puffy shirt, platform shoes and running eye liner.

I've had a day off today so I'm doing some clearing out. Another one that I started and never got around to finishing until now. Hope it's not to dusty. (smile)
The vocals were to nice to leave unattended.

Peace! ;)-
