To me, Thanksgiving day brings thoughts of family, food, friends, and hopes and desires for a peaceful world. This show begins with songs that evoke these messages. It also features some great powerful Tenor sax players. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Once again my regular broadcast is preempted by UCONN Sports. I was able to satisfy my "radio habit" with a one hour time slot fill-in. Although we have no particular theme, I would like to draw your attention to the incredible, 16 plus minutes, Chico Freeeman/Arthur Blythe track Footprints (Wayne Shorter composition). This and several other tracks I have played on recent shows were brought to my attention from Ken Blanchard's excellent blog Jazz Note SDP. Check out his blog for some very valuable recommendations to build your jazz music library.

We are fortunate to live in the Hartford area, half way between New York and Boston, to be able to catch some great acts live. Whether it be right here in Hartford or New Haven or a two hour train ride to NYC, there is lots of jazz to be heard live. Most of tonight's program are from artists who have made the journey through Connecticut to delight the small but enthusiastic jazz fans at dinner clubs, bars and small venues nearby.

Another eclectic mix with no real theme. This show is the remaining tracks of a broadcast from October 4 of this year. Since I only had 4 tracks, I added a bonus recording of the great Charles McPherson whom we saw this weekend performing at the Jazz Standard with Tom Harrell. I just tacked it on to the end of the radio broadcast so it is not announced, but this track shows McPherson's strong bebop style in the tradition of Charlie Parker.

This week my show was supposed to be preempted by a sports broadcast, but due to a change in schedule, I was able to regain one hour of my program. Thus, a hastily put together playlist. Of special note is a new release entitled King Mystery from a group called New York Electric Piano. The group is led by Pat Daugherty, pianist and composer. Enjoy!

After the opening track, from Anat Cohen, we feature some of the jazz artist from this years Hartford International Jazz Festival. Wallace Roney, Steve Davis and Dave Liebman (to appear with Badal Roy's Full Moon Quartet), are just some of the great performers in this years festival. The festival which takes place on Columbus Day weekend each year, brings great live jazz to many different Hartford venues. The Main Stages have world renowned artists, and encore stages, various bars and restaurants, have local jazz favorites playing till late hours of the evening all over town. It is a great weekend that jazz lovers look forward to all year round. For more information on the Festival visit www.hijf.com .

We open tonight's show featuring the Pork Pie Hat Jazz series. This series of five jazz shows is sponsored by the Hartford Office of Cultural Affairs, and produced by friend of this show, Andres Chaparro. Insight performed last week, and it was a great scene to see the community turn out to support live jazz in downtown Hartford. We finish the show with a birthday tribute to John Coltrane, who would have been 82 last week.
