Underworld: Rise of the Lycans 2009 movie Trailer HD - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 23:33:11 +0000

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans
Release Date: January 23, 2009

"Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", the next movie in the Underworld series but a prequel to the original version released in 2003.

In the Underworld universe, Vampires and Lycans are not malevolent supernatural creatures, but rather the product of a virus; unlike vampires of other more ‘traditional' works, Underworld Vampires are forbidden to drink human blood or in any way interfere with humans. Also, some Vampire relics and amulets featured in the movies are cross-shaped, and they show no aversion to Jesus' name which is heard a few times throughout the narrative.

Sixteen centuries ago, a man named Alexander Corvinus was the only survivor of a plague that wiped out his village. Somehow, the man's body was able to mutate the virus, mold it to his own benefit and become the first true immortal. Later, he had three sons, one of whom did not inherit his father's immortality and was simply human. The other two were bitten, one by bat and one by wolf, creating the Vampire and Lycan lines. Corvinus' third son also carried the Corvinus Strain, hidden away in his genetic code ? an exact duplicate of the original virus, passed along to his human descendants through the centuries. This, according to Singe, is the key to creating a Hybrid.

The prequel will trace the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover Sonja (Mitra) in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

The Burrowers movie trailer 2009 - Mon, 10 Nov 2008 09:25:58 +0000

The Burrowers
Release date : TBA 2009

It is 1879. Coffey (Karl Geary), a young Irishman settled on the plains of Dakota, is about to ask his sweetheart to marry him. His dream of wedded bliss is shattered, however, when something or someone attacks the young lady's family farm, kidnapping the women and children and slaughtering the men. Coffey joins a group of local ranchers and cavalrymen in search of the victims, who are assumed to be prisoners of a fierce band of natives.

Put off by the sadistic and single-minded tactics of self-appointed group leader Henry Victor (Doug Hutchison), Coffey sets out with a couple of ranchers (William Mapother and Highlander's Clancy Brown), as well as a teenaged boy and a freed slave (Sean Patrick Thomas). They soon discover mysterious holes in the ground and a catatonic girl buried in the dirt, suggesting that they may not be hunting an ordinary tribe. A sinister enemy seems to be stalking them from below the serene grassy plains of the vast new frontier.

Director JT Petty sustains a level of dread and foreboding as his blend of Western grit and unnerving horror unfolds across the isolated and expansive Dakota Territory. The Burrowers is a creature feature within the context of a true Western ? in fact, it is ostensibly a terror take on John Ford's The Searchers. A profound juxtaposition is forged between the horrific actions of mankind and the mounting horror of what our hero and his posse are about to discover. Cinematographer Phil Parmet, who also shot The Devil's Rejects, evokes an eerie atmosphere in the dusty landscape, and glimpses of pale, slashed skin and festering wounds are made more terrifying by the accompanying, uncanny sound of churning earth.

Petty's previous film, S&MAN, was a much-praised entry in the 2006 Midnight Madness lineup, and despite being denied a proper DVD release, it has become a highly sought-after item in horror circles. The Burrowers, which is Petty's fourth film and third narrative feature, is an accomplished work that further confirms his talent.
