The interview is simultaneously translated in French by my friend Eric Tessier who hosts the rock show “Place aux fous musique” on the French Anarchist radio “Radio Libertaire” : a premiere on Meltingpod !! Eric couldn’t air the interview before the end of July, that’s why I waited.
I illustrated the interview with some excerpts of my live recordings at the soundcheck, specially when from the very first minutes both Bad Seeds Warren Ellis at the violin and Martyn Casey at the bass joined Ed Kuepper and Jeffrey Wegener to improvise together fot the first time on “Eternally yours” !!! A very nice surprise !

But the acoustic was very hard at the Olympia ( a new venue in fact, the old one has been destroyed a few years ago!!) and the sound engineer is working during my recording : not easy in that context to capture a correct sound but this recording was the unique memory of that interesting work; so I chose to keep some short moments like a very special noisy version from “Nights in Venice” at the end !! L’Olympia : a new punk venue ?

Darrel (Blue Tongue Management) I love your sense of taking a risk for promoting your new band Lawless Breed with just “Planet Marseille and Annie” as a name but you won !!! I GOT IT !! Thanks you for the smile which lit my face up seing that package above my mail box this morning…:) I understood your message : you seem to miss Marseille ! I will do my best to spread these albums at the good places.

On the second image, Ed Kuepper faithful to his “Do it yourself” way of life brought and gave me his new Live album himself…self recorded, self produced with his own label Prince Melon Records and self distributed for now !!! (cover photo by Judi Dransfield Kuepper).
For those of you who couldn’t have been present at one of his great shows during his last European tour with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds or couldn’t be present at one of his shows during his next Australian tour (from August 9th to 16th at Sydney, Adelaïde and Melbourne), it’s a good way to have an idea of his new trio Live with Jeffrey Wegener on the drums and Pete Oxley at the bass (called the Kowalski Collective)…all the versions of the old songs are new and there are songs you surely don’t know…order it to Ed himsef to show your support to such an independant and positive attitude !!!
BTW : the interview with Ed recorded at l’Olympia at Paris June 9th, simultaneously translated in French by Eric Tessier from the rock radio show “Place aux fous musique” will be aired on Radio Libertaire 89.4 MHz fm July 25th from 1:00 to 2 :30 pm : !! I recorded that interview with Buzz in May and we spoke about many things (it was such a long time !!) : from the Aussie Rock Celebration Concert - Unveiling the Statue of Bon Scott 2008, to the Sorry Day, the Jimmy Little Foundation, the arrival of a new government in Australia, the long way to reunite the Angels again, the new release of “Face to face” for the tour, the performances’ concept (we even spoke about Ed Kuepper !!), the ideas to play oversea and…Marseille !!

If you want to hear and read my first connection with the Angels, check my first true podcast in March 2005 with Buzz’s first e-mail who reacted on Meltingpod !!! This podcast was in fact just a joke to reply to my friend Michael Butler who lauched the Rock and Roll Geek Show from San Francisco a few months before…who knew at that moment (where I couldn’t say one word in English !!) it could lead me to such a long trip…:)

That concert closed his 3 weeks long european tour with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds with some great moments : Martyn P. Casey and Warren Ellis (the violonist and bass guitarist from the Bad Seeds) joined Ed and Jeffrey on stage for an unforgettable version from Eternally yours (videos clips soon : stay connected !!).; at the end of Nick Cave’ s show Ed and Jeffrey joined the Bad Seeds…Paris was lucky and me too !!

For the last song a big jam : Ed Kuepper, Warren Ellis (violin) and Nick Cave (back on the piano); the three drummers together : Thomas Wydler, Jeffrey Wegener and Jim Sclavunos !!

We continued the interview (part 3) in a very quiet, peaceful and intimate garden with flowers we found out walking in the Tiergarten at Berlin without a precise idea of the North…in fact a place for confidences and Ed spoke about his temporary blockage to write any song or play live after producing 12 (or 15 ?) albums between 1990 and 1997 , how he started again and his new approach of the music now !!

In that podcast I played “Horse under water” recorded during the show at the Tempodrom, “Rainy night” and Everything I got belongs to you” recorded during the soundcheck at l’Olympia…Ed tested all the time new versions with Jeffrey and it’s really an endless pleasure…:)

We couldn’t wait to share that with you !!

The second day in the afternoon I recorded one hour interview with Ed Kuepper in the Tiergarten a wonderful park in the middle of Berlin : my idea was to approach his musical evolution during 35 years.
In this podcast part one we started at Brême-Germany where Ed was born, then his childhood in Australia and his beginning with the “second band” : “Kid Galahad and the Eternals aka the Saints”…be patient : a small ridiculous little wind wasted the five first minutes of the recording but fortunately I detected it. I illustrate the interview with some of my live recordings at the soundcheck with : “When I first came to this land, Rainy night, Honey steel’s gold, The way I made you feel”…+ a blues song (? I’m ignorant Ed) + a cover from the Troggs “I want you” by the Streetwalkin’ Cheetahs featuring Wayne Kramer (Ed explained it was the first song played with Chris and Ivor at their high school party)…+ a short interview with Jeffrey at the end recorded after the second show : he even sang me a song…:)

a true pleasure to hear his voice giving all the time a very sincere point of view as a musician and as a human person. I don’t know if my voice is seductive but his voice is terribly addictive…:)
I played a lot of live extracts recorded in 1980 at Paris and in Australia with the Angels’ original members : Chris Bailey, Buzz Bidstrup, Doc Neeson, Rick and John Brewster…at least REUNITED !!

The news are great : The Angels (aka Angels city) finally fixed their legal problems with names, companies and…reunited for the fans’ pleasure and I can imagine for their own pleasure too !
Doc announced the Angels’ next Australian tour in July 2008, maybe an European tour in 2009, tried to comfort me right now alone at Marseille singing “a capella” a song for me, looking for a way with me to find money with Meltingpod and be able to join quickly the Angels in Australia…an incredible phone meeting placed under the sign “high seduction” but very friendly and warm-hearted too !
We spoke more than 1,5 hour with Doc so I will publish the podcast in two parts. Enjoy the first one !

Just after this nice conversation with Doc I called Buzz just after that during 1,5 hour too !! A happy day for me as you can imagine !!
We obviously spoke about the Angels’ reunion, then about the Bon Scott Concert, the Jimmy Little Foundation…so many news after such a long separation…:) I can just say : stay connected on Meltingpod if you like the Angels !!

As always Ed is very precise and sincere to answer to my questions and he develops his “romantic” concept about his live performances…Warning ! you could become addict and book all of his shows !
I played “My best interest at heart”, “When I first came to this land” and “Flypaper”…A friend’s advice if you want to know more about Ed, order his both compilations (49 songs exactly each time !!) : “The Magic Mile” (Ed Kuepper) or “Cruel but Fair” (the Laughing Clowns).
Ed sent me unreleased versions from “the Laughing Clowns” and “Eternally yours” to give you an idea of his duo guitar-vocals and drums with Jeffrey…a big pleasure in perspective if you can catch a show near your town :

If this website is still alive (my server Free cut my account because of a violent spammers’ attack during my sickness) it’s thanks to some of my friends who answered present and saved my database, updated my Wordpress version like Markus from Berlin, the French podcasters like Luc Saint-Elie from Paris (the first French male podcaster who helped me the first French female podcaster to start her blog in 2005 !!) and Alain Thomas from Bordeaux (Palmipode).
Thanks to you three and thanks to all my listeners who regularly (sometimes daily !!) sent me messages of love during these bad last two months : it was very very precious to avoid to give up !!

A great emotion to hear that solemn talk at the Australian Parliament from France !! It’s maybe and surely the first time in the world I guess, a nation apologizes for the damages caused to the indigenous who lived in their country before they arrived as…colonialists !! A lot of countries in the world including France caused the same damages in the past even with having the sincere feeling they only brought their best : their greatest civilization !! I feel me proud for all my friends in Australia who helped that day to come : a great day for the Aborigines for Australia and for the whole planet ! and the first step for a big change in our society I hope !
