There you have it! It’s official, we can speak about it ! One of the iPhone Apps I have been working on will soon be pushed to the App Store, probably next week.

It’s called “pick&play”, it’s a contract from Pikeo by Orange, and it’s a funny memory game, pretty different since you actually win new funny pictures every time you win a game.

Click on the screenshots to get them bigger I’m sorry if they’re in french, the app is also in English (and spanish!), don’t worry!

Of course it’s gonna be free for all of you in a few days (as long as our friend at Apple lets us in without too many troubles) but we’d like to reserve a special Preview version of the app for our dear friends Bloggers and Podcasters. They can get it by following the info in the following PDF, the official press release of Pikeo by Orange.

If you’d like to support Pomcast, it’s a very simple way to do so. Speak about it, download it, show it to your friends, etc, … Pomcast.biz is clearly what now finances Pomcast.com, even though these are 2 “relatively” independent entities For those of you who’ll be tomorrow at Le Web tomorrow, look out for a big guy with a black T-Shirt Pomcast / “Pom staff” (or a Sweat Shirt “San Francisco” if Loïc forgot the heating…) and I’ll show you what the app looks like.

As a follow up to our discussion in the 24 hour Pomcast (in french), I just stumbled upon this :

Writing vs. Typing: “I’ve been doing a lot of program/api design work lately in my favorite medium, a blue col-erase pencil + paper. Usually I use tiny ruled graph paper, but I’ve run out of it and there are all these empty sketchbooks laying around… So anyway, I’ve noticed that I’m way faster at typing than I ever was at writing. Which annoyed me at first but then I realized that this slowdown actually gave me a little bit more time to think before commiting my thoughts down. My thoughts always change when I’m writing, but now they get more time to change and maybe become clearer. Maybe? Possibly? It’s a good thing, right? +1 for traditional media?”

This is a reaction to this post from Sebastiaan (Help us make it big on Digg!), which, by the way, I interviewed in the last English Pomcast. After reading his post I posted a commented but his blog would take out the video So here is my comment, this time with the video.

Reed College at that time oﬀered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between diﬀerent letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the ﬁrst Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the ﬁrst computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them.

Dell Waranty Service: Thumbs Up!

Wow. There’s no other word coming out of my mouth when I think about what just happened with my Dell 2707WFP (look for it using the “StuFF mc (loves) Dell Monitors” link on the left…) being literally *replaced* for 1 USB port not working properly. It blows me away how the whole process was easy… Read on…

I bought the monitor in March 2007. A few months later I realized one of the side USB port was broken. Actually I never saw something like that happen, 2 of the 4 “pins” where pushed inside, making this port unusable. Not a big deal, since I really don’t use those ports, so I let it like that, thinking “you’ve got to call Dell before the monitor is one year old”. Of course, I forgot… But hey, not a problem, because after discussing about it in the last french “Pom Pom Pom Pom” with my mate Carlito (thanks, buddy!), it turns out those things (like many others) have 2 years warranty!

Still, I was saying to carlito “Yeah but I’ve got to call one of those expensive numbers…” since I was so used to Apple’s way of doing after sale “services” (I don’t call it a service anymore when you have to pay for the damn thing to be repaired/replaced). Carlito then said “No no, it’s a free number, and they even have a contact form or e-mail”.

Wow, an E-mail, you mean, like, something I actually can WRITE, instead of CALL. I’m so used to “Please press Cmd Option P R, it’s probably your PRAM…” that I actually forgot they are some company out there doing it smarter… So I write to Dell, a few hours later they ask me my serial number and a few simple questions, and on the next day they let me know a transport company will come and REPLACE the monitor…

Yeah, you read it right… They completely REPLACED the Monitor… For a simple USB port… Wow, wow, wow… I mean, I’m sorry, but with Apple, it would have meant using my 17″ for a few days, if not weeks. I’m sorry if some of you guys might feel bad about me being so nice about Dell and so bad with Apple, but the facts are here.

So once again, to be clear, they still do PCs, not running OS X, so I’m not gonna buy them a computer. But as for the rest, yeah, defintely… My next printer might be from Dell, if it’s the same experience when you have a problem… And, fasten your seat belts, if Cupertino allow them to run OS X, I’m not even sure I would still buy Macs
And now go ahead, flame me on the comments, blame me, on the boggie One last word, for both Apple and Dell (and Microsoft sometime): I.love.those.companies - just for different reasons, and don’t ask me to become an extremist and “choose” one of them…

At least let me think it’s true. Since the begining (may 2005), I had a catch-all on pomcast.com, which means if you wrote to whatever-email-you-want@pomcast.com, I would be the one to get it. A lot of websites have that set this way, to be sure not to miss any important email. It turns out, there’s probably 0,01% important email being sent to an unvalid email, and the rest, guess what, it’s all about some pills that are supposed to be good for me and/or my wife. It’s not like I’m getting one spam E-mail a day, but more like 20 or more So today is a big day, as I turn my catch-all OFF! If you write to iam-not-gonna-get-those-emails-anymore@pomcast.com, you’ll get an a nice answer telling you I think you’re a spam, and that you should use my real email (guess what it is…) or the contact form. By the way, most of the pomcasters have their own email address also, so you should try to write them. Now we’ll see if it worked!

1) Why do I have twice httpd under _www + another one with root?
2) Why is httpd (Apache?) the only 64bit app I have? I feel frustrated…
3) Why the biggest spanish TV channel did not choose the right partner for their streaming software? Octoshape (nope, no link for both of you bad bad guys), not working with Leopard.
4) How the hell is the rest (being all “Intel”) sorted?!? Not with the user, not the name, as you can see… Not the PID, not the RM, not the VM, trust me! Maybe an other column?
5) And this is the beginning of a long series of Screenshots with, at the same time, some “shout out”, this one goes for MarsEdit, who recently changed my life, or at least my relation with WordPress

Alright post in English since I don’t have yet that much time.

VERY good news on a personal/professional base for me, as I’ll be in working for 2 (or 3) clients from Paris and this will allow me to be back on track for Pomcast. This will also give me more time to promote Wilogo and I hope it will also give me some time (you know, between 3 and 4 am…) to start with Cocoa/Obj. C (man, this is becoming like a child dream that never became true, and let me tell you: I’m not used to that!).

That said, here’s the big annoucement. We’ll be hosting a stream, probably video, probably using Both Mogulus and Seesmic (need an Invite?), during the Macworld’s keynote, starting at 9am PT (6pm CET). Of course we’ll also report on Twitter. By the way this is a call for Sponsors and friends (and pomcasters and ”pomiteurs”, the ones who listens to us): We’re looking for a big room with some beverage and peanuts to host this in some public space, with a video projector, for example.

I’m sorry I did not spend so much time at Pomcast in 2007, It should change in 2008, I hope to be able to put as much effort as I did in 2006, but this time I hope some *things* have evolved. If anybody wants to interview me right now I’ll have to develop about the disadvantages of being an early adopter…

Since it’s 2.31 am, this will not be the longest post in the history of Pomcast I wanted to tell you something REALLY important for the future of Pomcast, and of myself. Since a few weeks, I am a proud team member of pretty cool start-up called Wilogo. I’ll be basically responsible of their English and Spanish (¡Si seà±or!) sites. German is left to my colleague Nicolas (a french guy based in Frankfurt) and french stays the business of the 3 co-founders. Needless to say, since they actually pay me for every logo being sold on the english and spanish site, you’ll here about Wilogo now and then. A few days ago Wilogo launched the THIRD version of their website, and I’ve been pretty busy localizing it in english and spanish. I still have a lot of work (so do have Wilogo, and Nico for the german version…), but it’s now “usable” and it will be better and better days after days.

So what is Wilogo ? Long story short, if you need a logo for you new company or project, it’s definetely “the place to be”. More info by clicking on the nice square banner on the right, or the nice shiny “made by the Wilogo designers” logo of Wilogo itself. That said, since a few weeks, you’ve heard me speak about Seesmic also… What is Seesmic? Well, it’s the new project of Loic Lemeur and Vinvin, 2 of the biggest french bloggers and podcasters that now live in San Francisco, and I’m in the alpha since almost day 1. I can only tell you this: if all goes well, the future of Pomcast is pretty tight to the one of Seesmic.

So of course, when I realized Seesmic will need a logo, I got in touch with them. The guys at Wilogo did the same, Ouriel Ohayon helped us a bit and it’s now official: Seesmic is using the Wilogo System to get its logo done. If you are a graphic designer sign up with Wilogo, you might win 2000 $, it’s the price for the winner, and 500 $ for the 2 other finalists. Not bad, uh ?

Beware of the Seesmic shock !

Loic finally unveiled his plan. On a side I’m pissed of, because he speaks about giving me access to it since months, and more specifically since last week. Also pissed of to hear it from a blog, even tough this is actually *a bit more* than just a blog… But on the other side, I know he’s been FRIGGIN busy those last days, between his moving (the guy lives in boxes right now…) and his new Startup. He also recently started to do something not a lot of people do : (Video)Blog the start of the company, day after day. And then this arrive today :

It’s gonna be fun to play around with that, to interact with my listeners (so go ahead and ask for an account !), to do it the way I also envision things : Interactive ! I mean, look at Pomcast… When it started in May 2005, there was me, HpTroll, and Vince (2 friends). Now there is probably over 30 people who, one day, were a “Pomcaster”. I don’t care about inviting people I don’t know. Sometime I wish all my listeners where Pomcasters ! Sometime it turns out their microphone, their voice, or their way of being is not what I wish. So what ?! Either we work on it (Microphone test, 1, 2…) or we just not work together anymore.

Loic, I wish you all the best, and even tough I know some people get crazy when I say that, I respect you for a lot of things - and you know about the things for which I don’t Now you say you have not the pretention of inspiring people, so let me take this pretention Yes, I dare… All you Pomcast listeners out there, before that you know you’d be a StuFF mc addict on Seesmic.com ;=)
