As you will no doubt know we are all operating in some very challenging and uncertain times right now. It's never easy to address topics like this but as a company we have felt the need to get Seesmic ready for what most are anticipating to be a bleak economic outlook for the considerable time going forward.

In order to prepare the company and ensure it has as strong a position until we reach to the other side, we have had to make some tough decisions around expenditure - the biggest impact being that we will be cutting 7 positions within the company.

Of course this is not a decision we have entered into lightly, especially when all of our staff have contributed so heavily to our growth. But the longevity of the company is obviously of significant importance - and thus we must reduce costs now in order to establish Seesmic as a solid business and pursue success of the company for years to come.

Whilst today's news is sad for everyone we want to reassure our community and partners that Seesmic will continue move forward - establishing a strong and stable platform for communication just we have always done.
Tough times. Tough decisions.also read my blog post http://www.loiclemeur.com/english/2008/10/tough-times-tou.html

Congratulations to everybody on the list. Honestly I would have never thought my name would show up in such a list. This is great I feel honored and thank you to Business Week for adding me to this incredible list but I have learnt to take some distance from these lists, they do not mean success when the business is only starting. I have yet to make Seesmic a real success, it is very promising but still very small and full of challenges. I feel incredibly happy of course to be in this list, but I know how much work still remains :) In fact, it is more pressure to succeed or beware of the fall!

PR is interesting, there is always plenty when things are launched, much less when they get shut down. I would love to have a basic online editing service from within Seesmic so I was browsing around tonight and tried to find YouTube's to see how it evolved. Well, it did not, it disappeared in fact. YouTube killed its "remixer" in silence.

Interesting move, I wonder why, it was probably not used much. I remember a few months ago I randomly bumped into the company that had created it. I wanted to contact them to see if we could add it to Seesmic too, but forgot who they are, if anybody has an idea... I remember a friend also told me there are open source solutions to this, as well as an Adobe online editing tool. I will keep investigating regardless of YouTube discontinuing it because I actually think in Seesmic it makes a lot of sense.

As you can see on the Techmeme post screenshot below both Silicon Alley and TechCrunch have posted Jason Calacanis' latest email about recession hitting startups, but it looks like they removed the posts, see Silicon Alley (post deleted) and see TechCrunch (404 not found) both have disappeared. What's going on? Jason asks in his emails not to reproduce them without authorization but I am sure he does not mind the coverage from TC and Silicon Alley. Weird.

Update: Jason actually asked them to take down the posts.
